(RTTNews) -
Three soldiers of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were killed in southern Afghanistan Thursday.
Two US troops and a British soldier were killed in separate roadside explosions in the south of the country, ISAF said in a statement Friday.
Britain's Ministry of Defense confirmed that its soldier had died in a roadside explosion near the town of Sangin in Helmand province.
With this, the number of foreign soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year rose to 463, including 272 Americans and 93 British.
2009 has been the most challenging year for British and American forces in Afghanistan since its military mission in the country began in 2001.
It underlines reports that overall, the South-West Asian country is becoming more lethal for U.S., British soldiers than Iraq.
ISAF also said five insurgents were arrested during an ISAF-Afghan joint military operation in the southern province of Kandahar.
