(RTTNews) -
President Barack Obama is reportedly frustrated with delays in delivery of vaccinations for the potentially deadly H1N1 influenza virus, better known as the swine flu.
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that while it is good that there are now 26.2 million doses of the vaccine available, 3 million more than just two days ago, the pace was not pleasing the President.
"The President has been and is frustrated with ensuring that this vaccine is delivered on time, and won't be satisfied until those that want to be vaccinated from HIN1 have the opportunity through the vaccine to do so," Gibbs told reporters at a press briefing.
Gibbs said the fault lay with the manufacturers who had indicated they would be able to prepare the vaccine more quickly than proved possible.
"The manufacturing of the vaccine, which certainly takes about six to nine months, in this case is taking closer to six months," he said. "But it hasn't been as fast as we were told, or as fast as we had hoped."
He added, "We'd hoped that what the manufacturer had said in terms of getting the vaccine here earlier would have been true."
The administration is working with state and local authorities around the country to ensure a speedy delivery of the vaccine, Gibbs said.
